Upcoming Projects: There's No Place Like
Isn't It Ironic?Dan wrote There's No Place Like back when he was just your average married fellow with no kids. Late in 2004, the movie about a married man juggling his marriage, kids, and peace of mind was shot and ready for someone to edit it. And wouldn't ya know, before you could say Baby Time, Dan would find himself with a new production to prepare for: his first baby, a boy to arrive in January 2006. So, Dan and his wife Kerry podcasted for most of the past year, sharing their pregnancy experiences with the world on the Baby Time show. Well... With the impending parental responsibilities and complete loss of a little something we call "free time," will we ever see There's No Place Like completed? You betcha. Like the delivery of the baby, we don't know when it will happen, but it sure will.
Important Music NeededKerri Oke has been the project of focus lately, but as editing has been nearing an end, Dan has been able to get some work done on cutting together There's No Place Like. The opening flashback "wedding" sequence has been completed, and it's very obvious that music will play an important role in the effectiveness of the movie. As editing progresses, co-directors Dan and C.C. will be discussing the music needs of the short and any interested composers will no doubt see information on this page about getting involved. Keep an eye out for that...
Assembling This PlaceThere's still a few shots that director Dan Gorgone needs to get until shooting is complete, but that doesn't mean he can't start editing. Below are the first screenshots from the upcoming There's No Place Like:
With editing and music still to come, Dan anticipates a release date of early 2005.
Just a Few Scenes To GoThis weekend, production continued on There's No Place Like at Dan's place in Stoneham. Co-star Nicole Bockman completed her work on the movie, pulled extra duty by adding a voice credit as a pesky telemarketer, and even had time to snap this interesting behind the scenes photo: ![]() What's going on here? Is Dan cleaning his glasses? Is Vacc performing a baptism? The result of this strange activity will be an interesting shot in the movie. All that remains for There's No Place Like are a few more scenes. Those will hopefully be done in the next few weeks.
A Babson AfternoonSunday found the Foo crew at Babson College to film a couple of quick scenes. Here you can see a few screenshots of Danielle Lozeau and Brian Hoffman. ![]()

And Away We Go...
The happy couple got to play on the beach and in the surrounding woods and rocks. It was an early morning, but well worth it. Even some nagging battery problems wouldn't get in the way of getting the three scenes filmed that we set out to complete. Filming is set to resume on November 7th at several locations in the Wellesley area with all filming being completed before the end of the year. The search is also underway for the perfect composer to join the crew, but no one has signed on just yet.
A Day at the BeachThis Sunday will mark the start of production. C.C. & Dan have been busy focusing on pre-production so the excitement level is high. If you're curious, we thought we'd share the story boards for one of the scenes to be shot this weekend. After Sunday, production is scheduled to pick up in November.
Shooting Schedule In PlaceLooks like shooting for There's No Place Like will officially begin October 17th when the crew travels north to the Gloucester area and films the dream sequence. Shooting will continue during two weekends in November with one stop in Stoneham and another at Babson College in Wellesley. After that, hopefully there will be enough time for post-production that a release by the end of 2004 can become a reality. Meanwhile, as the crew is being finalized, one person has already come aboard. Dan has drafted Anthony Villa to design a special prop for the movie. Besides his memorable acting turns for Jodom Pictures, Anthony has also done prop and set design work for projects such as Demento 3 and Dan's short for Seven Sisters Films, Climate Control.
Double Secret Commercial ShootingOver the past week, Dan and Vacc have been in Calgary visiting the Infiniti Productions gang. Some time ago, there was talk of shooting this movie in Canada, but the plans changed to shoot in New England instead. However, still anxious to shoot something Foovie-related with the Canadians, Dan devised a plan to shoot a commercial that may be featured in There's No Place Like up in locations like Banff, the Badlands, and other stunning locations in the Great White North. Plenty of footage has been captured, so don't be surprised to see this Foovie be the first with an international locations list.
Casting Is Complete
Nicole brings an impressive resume to the table, including numerous appearances with Midnight Chimes Productions as well as a long list of local voice-over work. Now that casting is complete, Dan and C.C. are already hard at work on pre-production, discussing locations and drafting crew members. Look for more information in the coming weeks about this tentatively scheduled October production.
New Foos Join the CastCo-directors Dan and C.C. have been busy over the past few days assembling a cast for the upcoming dramatic production, There's No Place Like. Dan will be playing the lead role of a businessman enduring a long day at the office. Joining him at "the office" will be up-and-coming indie actress Danielle Lozeau. Danielle has been working steadily over the past two years, making a name for herself with such groups as Jodom Pictures, Timberwolf Entertainment, and Boston's XYtv.
Joining Danielle will be Jodom veteran Brian Hoffman, who followed his memorable comedic debut in Limelight with a dramatic turn in A House Divided. Mike Duca has joined the cast as well, following his Foo debut in the upcoming Absolute Precision.
Two Directors, Eleven PagesDan Gorgone has completed work on the 11-page screenplay for There's No Place Like and handed it off to C.C. Chapman, who will be co-producing the project. In a nutshell, the story follows a man dealing with the stresses in his real life by retreating to the bliss of a seemingly perfect one. C.C. will also be co-directing the project. We think this pairing will make sense given that one of the goals of the production will be to present two different settings with two different points of view. It only seemed natural for Dan and C.C. to share the directing job just as they did on such Foovies as Spontaneous Combustion and Knock On Wood.
Keeping It In the States? After a few discussions, it looks like There's No Place Like will happen, but not in Calgary. Given cast and crew limitations during the week Dan and Vacc will be in town, shooting on location for this movie does not seem feasible. Instead, alternate projects are already being considered with Infiniti's Jon Ashby. However, there is still a strong interest in shooting this short and doing it closer to home. A "breathtaking location" is required for a pivotal dream sequence in the movie, and with C.C.'s extensive knowledge of New England, many believe we'll be able to find something suitable right in our own backyard. Stay tuned for more...
Possible Calgary Production?Dan Gorgone has roughed out a new story entitled There's No Place Like which tells the story of a frazzled businessman looking for peace after a long day at work. However, when he returns to his "home sweet home," he discovers things are not so sweet. How can this man find some peace in his life? Infiniti's Jon Ashby has been in touch to see what Dan and Vacc want to do while in Calgary, and, of course, they want to shoot something. Time will tell if this project is in the works as a Foo/Infiniti production.
